I'm not gay, but I take offense to the idea of equating homosexual activity with "sleeping with hookers, and intravenous drug users". Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they sleep around, just like someone who is straight doesn't just sleep around. This is something that you should probably reflect on, in that gay people can be just as likely or not to sleep around and behave in risky ways as straight people can.
I don't think the person you are responding to was equating homosexuality with anything. If you've ever given blood, which I have many times, you would know that you have to fill out a form every time which asks you questions based on relatively high-risk behaviors, including sex-for-money, intravenous drug use, and male-to-male sex. That doesn't make them equated and I see nothing in Socratic's post that would imply s/he felt they were.

And Apple having your address, phone number, e-mail address, creditcard is fine with you? And if yes, why is ok for Apple to have this information but not for the FT?
The difference is not whether or not they have it, the difference is whether or not they can sell it to "Companies which offer something they think I might be interested in".

where did i infer that blacks using the word was acceptable?
The way you wrote it kinda implies it... (bold emphasis mine below).
but yeah if a white person called me a n word i'd be mad so the same applies here.

Sounds like everything Apple just went through with Antenna-Gate and the White iPhone 4. It happens to everyone.
I don't think this is the case. RIMM is not doing well.

Shares of Research In Motion Limited (TSE: RIM) fell by 15.1% or $-8.13/share to $45.7. In the past year, the shares have traded as low as $44.94 and as high as $73.98. On average, 1956300 shares of RIM.TO exchange hands on a given day and today's volume is recorded at 8273998. The shares are currently trading below the 50-day and 200-day moving averages which indicates that the shares have been experiencing downward momemtum. The stock may bounce back to test the 200-day moving average. Thus, you may want to pay close attention for a move up to the $55.63 area but be careful because the stock may face selling pressure at this level.

I did, in fact, mean using JavaScript on page load to disable the user from changing the size of the textarea, not within my browser. It's like using CSS to disable the dotted border Firefox puts around links when they are active.
Form elements, and the divs that contain them, often need either fixed widths or have widths that are proportional to their containers.
Take Google (http://www.google.com). Depending on how the layout is set up (this is just hypothetical), resizing the search box would push those three links next to it off into oblivion if they were all in a div that was fixed or proportional to the page width. It doesn't matter if Safari "dynamically redraws the page" since the div would still be calculated to be the same. Worse yet, depending on its overflow attribute, they could be pushed onto a new line.
I'd really not like to see Safari become the next IE 5. It already has its share of JavaScript bugs. This would just mean us designers would have to spend that much more time envisioning what would happen if a user resized every form element on every page and incorporating it into our layouts. This is why I hope there's a way to disable it outright.

Seriously, the iOS maps app is so unreliable. Sometimes it's super fast and sometimes (i.e. whenever I really need it quickly) it lags so bad, doesn't load maps or traffic info, takes forever to get directions, etc, and basically makes me want to throw my iPhone out the window. The maps app needs a serious reliability overhaul.
Also, what is so bad about the iOS notification system? I just hit "Close" if I don't care about a notification at that time.

Sounds like it will be same shape, same screen, same everything externally (hopefully a new antenna though). Explains the lack of parts since they will be using the same parts... What did we see between the 3G and 3GS? A matt back and some internals (dock connector fitting and the camera I believe)?

But what if torturing a person who is involved in the plans of a terrorist attack could prevent thousands of deaths?
Torturing would never be a good action, but it is like killing someone to defend yourself, killing is bad, but the result of killing saved your life.
In the case of torture, it is the government defending its people (country). If it can be avoided better, but I would rather authorize torture instead of letting attacks happen.
EDIT: As with everything, every single case needs to be analyzed separately.
But there is absolutely no guarantee or, to my knowledge, no proof that torture results in any useful intelligence whatsoever. And killing someone to save your own life is defending yourself. Not sure how torture could ever be considered an act of self-defense.

Thanks in advance. :)

You need to ask yourselves a questions: How these stores operating? and Why products end up there?
Apparently, some authorized retailers overstock iPads or could not move projected volume, so they dumped some unsold inventory to Marshalls and TJMax, just to get some cash back, quick.
Overstocked with iPads??? Not a good news for Steve.
What is the issue here? iPads are sold in Walmart and Target and nobody complains.
I think the biggest issue with it comes from the actual Apple authorized retailers. For instance, in my line of work (golf course management), I purchase golf equipment directly from the manufacturers (Callaway Golf, Nike, Titleist, etc). To be able to do that, I HAVE to agree to a minimum advertised pricing (MAP) policy, or I can't buy directly from them nor be listed as a retailer of that company's products (any retailer buying from directly from the manufacturer has to abide by this). If I then saw a major retailer (a competitor) advertising products that I sell for significantly lower than I am allowed to (knowing that all official retailers are supposed to be bound by this agreement to even sell the products as an "authorized retailer"), then I'm going to be pretty upset as to why I have to abide by it to get my goods, when either they (the competitor discounting said merchandise) aren't, or either they are getting a cheaper price (allowing them to sell for a lower price than me, yet still keep similar profit margins). And if they are in violation of this MAP policy, I'm going to damn sure be wondering why the manufacturer (in the iPad case...Apple), isn't going after them (telling them to stop, if they are an authorized retailer), or pulling their account. In the golf business, the manufacturers go hard after companies that violate this MAP policy.

For me an unexpected gift was a kindle. I never really expressed much interested in them to either of my parents but they do know I like to read. I always though it was kind of a limited device and then I am given on. Get a book on and and started reading to day. I have to say I am very surpised and find that I really like. People are not kidding whey they say eink is very nice to read off of. Much nicer than a back lite LCD screen (iPad, iPod, iPhone). I see my reading going up a lot now.
Also got Halo Reach
New wallet
Tune up for my mountain bike.
Some legos
and clothing.
Best part was enjoying time with my family.

I'm guessing that you're not someone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Allen)who's been in that position (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates), though. How does your opinion account for those guys?
Right??? What does Microsoft have to do with Apple then? Did it become successful, then nearly go bankrupt, then become successful on the return of Mr Gates again? Mr Gates is now doing a damn site better work then ANYONE at Apple ever has, FACT! Unless you think charity is a waste of time? But as I never mentioned Microsoft, what's your point? It's not the same company as Apple.
He did give a reason
Jesus, at least ONE person on here can respond with some common decency and common sense and actually correct me with a fact rather then respond as though I slagged of the messiah, even though most of you think Apple is the second coming.....
Thanks for the info mate. Makes much better sense to me now.
I'm sure Apple won't miss 'loosing' your money (seriously, why the hell can't people spell this word right), nor do they give a damn what you think, as they seem to understand what most people want, more so than any other company on the planet. I have the Lion beta installed, and it's by far their best release yet. Goodluck with the alienware.
Do me a favor mate, if your going to pick on my apparent spelling (loose is the correct spelling ;) but I meant lose I guess) then at least quote what I ACTUALLY typed rather then make up what you think I typed? It would help matters if you can't be bothered to respond with anything useful. And I'm glad to hear you want a dumb downed computer with an iPad interface, meanwhile MOST of the rest of the world will stick to 'real' computer OS
Good grief, here comes the "Sky is falling!" crowd
Have fun with that.
Words are not sufficient to respond to this gem.
Everyone likes to try new things. 22 years is a long time. Most of us would like to drop what we're doing and try something new. Unfortunately, unlike Bertrand, most of us don't have the money to do it.
Yeah, drop what your experienced in, what you have done for 22 years!! Leave a massively successful company... Shame you couldn't be bothered to offer the reason he left like the guy I quoted above, instead you just gave the usual fanboy response to someone who dared to say a bad word about Apple
Have fun with your Alienware, be sure to have a backup generator on hand for the 12,000 LED's that thing has.
I hear battery life is 20 minutes.
Yeah, wow, a laptop, I'm so glad you 'Assumed' I would want a laptop! I was actually thinking of a desktop that is expandable, performs far better then any iMac, costs a lot less then a Mac Pro..... And Windows 7 is pretty damn good and flash works on it...
